This week was harder for me!! Please can we never again have to follow the speed limit EXACTLY!! it's a huge hazard! I lost my first and only point the first day I drove, there for keeping me off the roads the days to follow or seriously cutting back on my driving. When I did drive I got flipped off, honked at and speed past! Going with the flow of traffic is a safer bet even if it means going a little faster then it's posted! Not a fan of this goal basically for safety issues.
60 points total for me with the bonus.

Kars for Kidneys is a foundation that takes your donated cars and using the funds to research kidney disease, support kidney patients and more! 87 cents of every dollar raised goes to Kidney research and care.
Okay, we found something harder to do than skipping dessert! I speed ALL the time I guess!!But it helped me be concious of my driving speed, so it was a learning experience! I was able to earn 54 points this week- I just didn't drive at all a few of the days! But I just couldn't pass up the cake and cupcakes at my in-laws 60th anniversary party because to do so would have been to waste food.... :-)
I'm interested in learning about sustainable agriculture. Seattle Tilth is an educational org. that teaches people about organic gardening, whether you have a large lot or only a balcony container garden. Check it out to see what you might do to support your local food growers, including growing your own! I also found out about a film called Homegrown- a Pasadena, CA family harvests over 6,000 pounds of produce on less than 1/4 acre of land. They make their own biodesel, power their computers with solar panels, and get over 4000 hits a day on their website. We will have to rent the movie and tell you about it!
I struggled with Stephanie at the family reunion with cakes and cupcakes. Also, driving to Folsom, CA without speeding is a little tough. I am fully expecting to get 100% this week though. I scored 56 this past week.
I did some research on the Earth Island Institute- it is an environmental non-profit that normal people like you and me can come up with an idea to save our environment and present it to a panel- as long as it meets a number of criteria, they will sponsor a project. I love the idea. The website is earthisland.org
They have been involved in protecting watersheds for salmon, making solar energy affordable, reducing car emissions in California, etc.
Jo Ann Dirtadian scored a 59- and her nonporofit was the St. Mary's food bank. Here is her info about it...
"One goal our company is trying for 2009 is to help out food banks with their needs. I was actually excited and surprised at how much St. Mary's is involved in all of the states they are setup in. They assist families, the homeless and kids in schools with making sure their foods needs are meet.
Right now, they along with many food banks are hurting since so many people are out of work and relying on them to help feed their families. I wanted to help out with going down to volunteer and help sort food. Unfortunately right now they do not need volunteers for this since there is not enough food on the shelves. It is going out as fast as it comes in.
So my goal is to make sure I try and work with the food bank in the fall."
I only got 54 points this week, and the speed limit one was a cinch for me(I ride the subway & walk)! Like Kim and Stephanie, the cupcakes at the 60th wedding anniversary weekend were impossible to avoid...sooooo delicious.

53 - Getting better... :o) I agree with Rebecca, going "slower" than traffic is scary! That's why I only got points for it 1 day! :o)
